British Keelboat Academy Inter Club Challenge Cup - Entries still open

by Matt Carter on 26 Mar 2013
The inaugural Inter Club Challenge Cup will be held at the Royal Southern Yacht Club, Hamble, on Saturday 13 April 2013. The British Keelboat Academy (BKA) is pleased to announce that the entry deadline has been extended until Friday 5 April 2013. Event organisers are urging interested teams to finalise their entries fast to avoid disappointment.

Entries have already been received from clubs including the Royal Yacht Squadron, Poole Yacht Club, Draycote Water Sailing Club and the Royal Southern, and several other clubs are in the process of finalising their teams for this newly-formed Inter Club Challenge Cup competition.

The event pitches two boat teams representing clubs against each other, with the majority of the crew made up of young sailors who wish to further their skills, experience and knowledge of keelboat racing.

Luke McCarthy, BKA Head Coach, commented: 'It would be great if as many boats and clubs as possible took part in this first event at the Royal Southern Yacht Club. The aim is to encourage young sailors to get more involved with keelboat racing with their clubs, and also to showcase the opportunities which the BKA is able to provide to get to the top level of the sport. We are looking forward to welcoming teams of young sailors and to seeing them battling it out on the water for event honours.'

The J/80s will be racing as a one-design class in accordance with the International J/80 Class Rules with increased crew weight limit. Four of the crew should be 24 years old or under on Saturday 13 April 2013.

IRC entries must have a TCC of between 0.900 and 1.050. 65% of the crew should be 24 years old or under on Saturday 13 April 2013.

Entries must be submitted to Royal Southern Yacht Club by Friday 5 April along with the entry fee of £100 per boat which includes three tickets for the evening function. Entry forms can be found on the Royal Southern Yacht Club website.
