A hard charging start for Ray Robert’s new Farr 36 in the 83 mile Coral Sea race at Hamilton Island finished with an early retirement to the bar of Hamilton Island Yacht Club.
With Ray steering, Kevin Costin calling tactics, Don (Admiral) Buckley headsail trimming, Ian Davis and Darren (Dags) Senogles on bow, the full cocked racer was amongst the bigger boats by the second turning mark.
There the Farr 36 clashed with Matt Allen’s Farr 52 Ichiban. Red flags.
Another half mile on, the #2 head sail split. Up went the #3.
With the south easter building Inner Circle joined the group following Djuice towards the mainland shore.
As Admiral recounts ‘We had a 20 degree wind shift and were looking good, then the mainsail tore and we turned for home’
By 10:45 am, Inner Circle was back in Hamilton Marina.
What now…rum and coke???
