18ft Skiff Queen of the Harbour 2013, hosted by Australian 18 Footers League on Sydney Harbour, will provide a couple of interesting highlights for followers.

Lomax Financial Group’s regular skipper Alexandra South will relinquish her normal position to become the ‘queen’ for the day.

Joining Alexandra on the skiff will be the two-times Giltinan (world) champion Chesty Bond team from the 1980s.

Alex’s father Adam South, together with Trevor Barnabas and Phil Barnett, will be having their first sail together for more an 20 years when they line up in the fleet on Sunday.

This year there will be a record set in the annual ladies event, which has a tradition going back more than 70 years.

Tom Mitchell, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, at De’Longhi Group, has been a strong supporter of the event for a number of years and his daughter Maddie is a previous ‘queen’ winner.

As well as having two skiffs in the fleet under the company sponsorship and its association with South Sydney (Rabbitohs) Rugby League club, Tom’s family is set to create a unique record.

Maddie will again take her place on the De’Longhi-Rabbitohs skiff, while Tom’s wife Luciana will be having her first outing on Rabbitohs-Kenwood.

It is the first time a mother and daughter have competed in the same ‘queen’ race on the harbour.

The club’s regular spectator ferry will follow the race, leaving Double Bay Wharf at 18ft Skiff Queen of the Harbour
