The TAG 60 is due to make its European boat-show Debut at the Multihull boat-show in La Grande Motte, April 10-14th.
Designed by Greg Young and built by TAG yachts in South Africa, the TAG 60 is an exciting high performance cruising catamaran. 100% carbon fibre construction, carbon rotating wing mast, 4 x 4 offshore ability with 1.3m bridge deck clearance, push button sail controls and systems, 100% unique saloon and cockpit layouts..... these are just a few of the features to be found on the TAG 60.
This is a vessel for sailors who really want to sail at high levels of performance and enjoyment. The vessel has two modes of sailing - cruise mode and sport mode. In cruise mode the vessel will not fly a hull as the sheets ease automatically before a hull can fly. However and like with traction control in cars, in the sport mode allows you to push the TAG 60 as hard as you want. Top speeds well in excess of 20 knots are common, but it’s the light air performance that really sets the TAG apart.
Often the Achilles heel of many catamarans, the TAG 60 has a unique and very powerful light air configuration. Sailing this vessel is exhilaration, yet safe and so easy to handle two handed.
One of the TAG 60s most unique feature is the saloon and outdoor/indoor living concept. The concept is a development of previous Greg Young designs like the 2004 Young 85 where the main cabin roof combined the normal Bimini top and cabin as a single structural entity. This gave a longer and sleeker appearance, then taking it one step further we designed the cockpit areas so it could be open or closed to the elements as needed. So on the one hand - a shaded and open cockpit and on the other - a much bigger living space than would normally be the case. Combined with the very practical outboard sailing cockpits and helm position, the concept is fast proving itself as a break through design.
The TAG 60 will be available for limited test sailing after the La Grande Motte boat-show and again later in the year after the Annapolis boat-show in October.
