Stena Match Cup Sweden is one of several official stages of the Alpari World Match Racing Tour. Today the international brand Stena, one of Sweden’s biggest family-owned companies with businesses worldwide, has announced their title sponsorship of the Stena Sailing Team skippered by Swedish match racer Johnie Berntsson. The sponsorship marks an expansion of Stena’s involvement in sailing and match racing adding to the company’s current title sponsorship of the Stena Match Cup Sweden.

The Stena Sailing Team, all of whose members hail from the Gothenburg area where Stena’s headquarters are located, have seen much success in recent years including Gold in the Swedish and Nordic Championships, Gold in the European Championship and a Bronze medal in the 2011 World Match Racing Tour. Earlier this month, the Alpari World Match Racing Tour announced Johnie Berntsson as one of eight skippers selected to compete on the 2013 Tour. The entry secures the Stena Sailing Team invitations to all the events on the Alpari World Match Racing Tour before the final stage in Malaysia in December.

'The collaboration with Stena has made it possible for us to make a serious commitment to sailing and take yet another step towards the goal of being professional sailors. In the future, we could focus even more on sailing. Now, we are looking forward to the summer’s match racing in Marstrand and working hard to achieve even better results than last year', commented team skipper Johnie Berntsson.

The team will consist of:
Johnie Berntsson, skipper
Johan Barne, tactics
Oscar Angervall, trim
Martin Berntsson, pit
Björn Lundgren, foredeck

As Lovisa Andersson, Marketing, Stena Metall, commented on the sponsorship; 'For Stena with its roots in Gothenburg, it feels natural to collaborate with a sailing team from the West Coast. Johnie Berntsson and his team have a sense of commitment and drive that makes us proud to give them our support. Stena usually invests in winning concepts in every context and we are convinced that Johnie Berntsson together with Stena can go all the way to world number one. We are looking forward to an exciting sailing summer with Stena Sailing Team and WMRT website
