Mendelblatt Team Race 2013 - Winners with the trophy Zachary Marks
Though the season has just begun and not much team racing has taken place yet, teams are already thinking through the season and preparing for their conference qualifiers for Nationals!

Two weeks ago, down at Eckerd the Mendelblatt Team Race took place, Stanford, with a strong showing, came away with the win. This past weekend, the Bob Bavier Team Race held at Charleston shed a bit more light on some of the teams to look out for on the team racing course this season, Georgetown besting other strong squads like Yale, Charleston, and Stanford for the win.

Yale will certainly be out for blood this season, having dominated much of last year's spring season (even considered a favorite to win it all by many) but missing a qualifying spot. Other teams who have not yet entered the ring but will be worth watching out for include BC, Roger Williams, and Brown.

This week, some of our panel chose to only rank teams that have already team raced this season and decided to hold off on commenting on specific teams until they had gained a more complete view of the team race competition. Others made thoughtful speculations about who they thought might come out of the woodwork over the next few weeks.

These next two weekends should help identify the leading teams in the ICSA team race competition with the Graham Hall Team Race at Navy this coming weekend and the St. Mary's Team Race Interconference the following weekend.

Thank you to our coaches' panel for their continued contributions to our rankings: John Vandemoer, Ward Cromwell, Brendan Healy, Dave Elsmo, Bill Healy, and Ken Legler. If you are interested in being a part of the coaches' panel, please contact Martha Pitt at martha@sail1design.com.

Sail1Design is proud to manage and sponsor the College Sailing Team Race Rankings. Rankings are based on college teams’ performance in team race regattas and an average of the polling from our Team Race Ranking staff.

If you would like to inquire more about our ranking system, or would be interested in joining the panel, please let us know!

ICSA Team Race Panelists include: Ken Legler (Tufts), Bill Healy (Yale), John Vandemoer (Stanford), Ward Cromwell (Charleston), David Elsmo (Wisconsin), and Brendan Healy (Navy).
