NSW Water Police use Finscan Digital Switching

by FinScan on 23 Feb 2013
NSW Water Police Naiad using FinScan Marine Digital Switching FinScan Marketing
With the recent release of the NSW Police Marine Area Command Naiad patrol boats, FinScan is pleased to announce the inclusion of IntelliCORE - FinScan’s marine digital switching and monitoring system as the chosen digital electrical system, for the patrol boats. Making the new NAIAD’s amongst the most technologically advanced boats in the fleet.

The IntelliCORE system that is designed into the patrol boats, utilises FinScan’s IP 65 rated touchscreens to control all lighting, power and other peripheral’s on the boats, from a 7' touchscreen mounted on the helm , and another on the port side for the navigator. Information also reported is fresh water tank level, and battery voltages. The screens provide operational modes to the NSW water police to simply press one button on the IntelliCORE screens to automatically set up the boat for a particular use, such as day or night time use. Other automated controls include wiper control and various modes linking external lights to the type of operation being performed by the patrol boat.

The NSW Police Marine Area Command had a unique set of requirements, including dual station control of the boats power systems. This meant with traditional wiring methods, a very complex and heavy electrical system was required to deliver the functionality that the NSW water police were trying to achieve.

By installing the FinScan marine digital switching system, the electrical system was simplified dramatically by installing a sixteen output DC Power distribution unit on the port and starboard sides, with a simple one click RJ45 IntelliBUS connection to the touchscreens. This also translated into the saving of space, and many labour hours during the build stage.

FinScan is an Australian designer and manufacturer of marine digital switching power solutions for the leisure and commercial marine markets.
