The JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff International 2013 started with a lot of very excited and cheering fans from a large spectator fleet usually reserved for the last Sunday of this iconic skiff sailing contest.

Such is the interest that this years event has attracted, which is due to the quality of the contestants in this the 64th staging of the JJ. If Gotta Luv it 7 is to win this event come next Sunday he will have had some momentous battles along the way, especially, if he, personally makes it all the way, because his knee problem could still him watching from the beach.

Race 1 eventually went to the Gotta Luv it 7 team by four seconds to the powerhouse crew of Rag and Hamish Hotel and Pure Blonde who came into the leaders all race. The two Kiwi skiffs, C-Tech and Yamaha showed that they are up for the title come Sunday week also.

Adam Young won Pick the Podium and wins a cool pair of Barzoptics San Juan Floaters and will go into the hat next Sunday for a shot at the major JJ Pick the Podium prizes which are promoted on the JJ site. Can you Pick the Podium? its fun and free to enter.

The Camera Cat 'play of the day' went to the Skipper of the Sydney Port Authority vessel for not completely wrecking the race.
