Semi finalists are confirmed on Day 3 of the CentrePort champs

Sailors were treated to a 10-12 knot northerly and cloudless skies for Day 3 of the 2013 CentrePort International Youth Match Racing Championship. Racing got away on time with the race committee rolling through the final matches of the second round robin and progressing on to the sail offs.

The form book stayed true with Sam Gilmour’s team from the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club continuing on and completing the double round robin with out dropping a match. Ash Rooklyn’s team from the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia have proved almost as consistent winning all of their matches except those against the Gilmour.

The two local teams four Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, skippered by Sam Mackay and Basil Connor, finished the double round robin in third and fourth with nine ans seven wins respectively.


After the two round robins the standing were:

1st Sam Gilmour - Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club: 14 wins
2nd Ash Rooklyn - Cruising Yacht Club of Australia: 12 wins
3rd Sam Mackay - Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club: 9 wins
4th Basil Connor - Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club: 7 wins
5th Scotty Barnes - Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron: 5 wins
6th Milly Bennett - Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club: 4 wins
7th Hampus Applegren - Royal Swedish Yacht Club: 4 wins
8th Beren Beowulf - Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron: 1 wins

In the sail off for fifth and sixth places Barnes prevailed over Bennet 2-1 while Appelgren took seventh spot with a 2-0 victory over Beowulf.

In the first matches of the semi finals Gilmour and Rooklyn have both taken a 1-0 lead over Connor and Mackay.

Tomorrow will see the last matches of the semi finals sailed followed by the petit and grand finals.
