by Jennifer Crowley Fyke on 1 Feb 2013
SW
The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of Coast Guard members and their families, has announced it is hosting an overnight sailboat race on April 27-28, 2013, the Coast Guard Foundation Cup.

Managed by the Annapolis Yacht Club (AYC), the race will start and finish outside of Annapolis Harbor. This event marks the second Coast Guard Foundation Cup race and all sponsorship proceeds benefit the Coast Guard Foundation and its support of the men and women of the Coast Guard and their families.

'The Coast Guard Foundation Cup is a tremendous opportunity to support the men and women of the Coast Guard, and participate in a great feeder sailing race in Annapolis,' said Jim Muldoon, noted sailor, Coast Guard Foundation director, and co-chairman of the Cup. 'It is a fantastic event for sailors to take part in a competitive race and gain experience before the 2013 Annapolis-Newport race later in the year.'

The Coast Guard Foundation Cup is sponsored by Huntington Ingalls, Inc. and METCOR, Inc., and is co-chaired by Jim Muldoon, skipper/owner Donnybrook, and Captain Pat Stadt, USCG (Ret.), an Annapolis multi-hull sailor. Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association (CBYRA) sanctioned, the Cup is open to sailboats with valid PHRF/Chesapeake 4P ratings; J/30, J/35 and J/105 one design classes; and boats with valid CBYRA Multihull ratings. Boats with IRC ratings will sail in their PHRF class and will be scored for both PHRF and IRC. The race will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 (RRS). Scoring will be in compliance with the Low Point System as defined in Appendix A of the RRS.

A mandatory Skippers’ Social, where captains will receive the rules, the course and pick up essential race materials, will be held at the Annapolis Yacht Club on Friday, April 26, 2013. Awards will be presented 1st/3, 2nd/5, 3rd/7+ entrants’ skippers and crew at the Annapolis Yacht Club on Sunday, April 28, 2013. Sponsorships are available to individuals and businesses, with proceeds benefiting the Coast Guard Foundation and its support of the men and women of the Coast Guard and their families.

For over 40 years, the Coast Guard Foundation has been committed to inspiring leadership, learning and a proud legacy of service to our nation by supporting the men of women of the United States Coast Guard. The Foundation provides higher education grants to enlisted personnel, reservists and their children, higher education financial support for families of Coast Guard members lost in the line of duty, financial relief to Coast Guard families who have lost possessions in natural disasters, and support for morale programs, including funding recreation, exercise and family-oriented facilities.
