Commodore Linda Goldsmith, in front of dignitaries and club members, officially dropped the first rock to mark the start of the construction of Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron’s new 250 berth marina on Tuesday, 22nd January 2013.
The new state-of-the-art facility is expected to be completed in early 2014 and will accommodate vessels up to 20 metres, including some provision for multihulls.
As expected, demand for long-term leases has been strong and only a handful of the 20 year leases remain. RMYS is also accepting deposits for short-term rentals of up to 12 months.
The successful tenderers for the new marina are:
Fitzgerald Constructions, who, in conjunction with Natural Stone Constructions, are carrying out the necessary extension to the existing breakwater;
Bellingham Marine, who will be providing all aspects of the new marina itself, and Scarlett Contracting, who will be upgrading the necessary power supply along the existing RMYS
