The Steinlager 18ft Skiff Nationals are on this weekend at the Auckland Sailing Club, Okahu Bay.

Ten boats are competing in this 6 race series to be sailed on the Waitamata Harbour in clear view of Tamaki Drive, Devonport and North Head. The regatta proves to be a timely shake up for the fleet with the JJ Giltinan’s in Sydney less than one month away.

-tech are hot favourites after dominating the Auckland Champs late last year, with Yamaha and Maersk Line hoping to push them off the top. ASCC and Events Clothing both have new crew members on board and new number 1 rigs so will be looking to develop as a team over the weekend.

The Steinlager 18ft Skiff Nationals is the first big regatta of the year and follow on the heels of the North Sails/Fineline Ropes Auckland Champs, which happened near the end of last year. The Auckland Champs were taken out by the C-tech crew followed by Yamaha in second, Maersk Line in third, ASCC in fourth and Events Clothing rounding out the top 5 of the 10 strong fleet.

The fleet also welcomes new teams lead by Sam Marshall, Yamaha White, and Hamish Hay, Cutting Shapes, who will be out to challenge the more seasoned 18ft skiff sailors over the weekend.

Acknowledgement must go to Steinlager who have recently come on board in support of the Auckland Sailing Club, demonstrating their long continued support of New Zealand yachting. A relationship with the 12ft and 18ft skiffs is sure to be an exciting one.
