Alex McKinnon was on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula to capture the Couta Boats in the Lavazza South Channel Race. Sunshine and a cool, stiff Sou'wester, where recently crowned National Champion, Nigel Abbott, got another Line Honours victory, were highlights of the day.
In Division One, the handicap prize went to Peter McKean's, Sally, with Robert Tucker's Morning Star leading Division Two home and David Birkill's, Lucy, getting the nod from the handicapper in that division.
It was a long passage race of around two hours in duration that saw the fleet start off the Sorrento clubhouse, go down to Portsea, head out to just South of the main shipping channel, which they traversed East until the icon South Channel Pile with all of its seals and birds, before heading back West along the beach in the Sorrento Channel to finish at the clubhouse.
Well done to all the sailors and volunteers for being part of such a great event.
