The NS14 Australian Championship gets more interesting with just two points separating the tandem of New South Wales sailors Bryce Edwards and Amanda Stern and compatriots Rohan Nosworthy and Sophie Holt after seven races.

After winning five straight races, New South Wales sailors Rohan Nosworthy and Sophie Holt are being challenged for their overall lead in the NS14 Australian championship on the Tamar River at Beauty Point.

They had to be content with two third placings on Monday with fellow NSW sailors Bryce Edwards and Amanda Stern winning both races and go into tomorrow’s racing with a lead of just two points

Port Dalrymple turned on a another nor’wester, averaging 16 knots, with soe sharp gusts of 20 knots plus keeping the crews on the watch for ‘darkies’ on the broad waters of the bay.

After seven races, Nosworthy and Holt, sailing the borrowed boat Arctic, are on a net 8 points while Edward and Stern, sailing Tempest, are second on 10 points with a remarkably consistent score of two wins and five seconds.

A distant third overall on 26 point is the first Tasmanian crew, Peter and Karen Davis, sailing Spinifex, followed by Nemesis (Ross and Hayden Henson, NSW) on 33 points, and the younger Davis sister and brother, Katherine and Matthew Davis) on 40.5 points. They are the leading youth crew.

Veteran NS14 sailor Dennis Leitch and his crew, Benjamin Davis, are sixth overall on 41 points.

Racing resumes tomorrow, 2 January from the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club at Beauty Point.
