Tough day to test the Tasars

by Stuart Templeton on 31 Dec 2012 Race day one provided some very testing conditions for the whole fleet at the Southern Diesel and Marine 40th Australian Tasar Titles at Victor Harbor in South Australia. Three races have now been completed, with three different heat winners to keep things interesting. The early favourites are Mike Karas and Molly Jackson representing Seattle Yacht Club in the USA, and they also took out yesterday’s invitational. NS14 sailor Hugh Tait from NSW and former World and National Tasar Champions, Nicole and Rob Douglass from NSW are also proving to be early contenders for the title.

The race committee did a great job of getting three races away today in shifty and very challenging conditions of six to 12 knots with only one general recall. National Juror from NSW Ian Humphries, had this to say about today’s racing 'Great first day at Nationals. Three races in the bag. Whilst there were multiple incidents, not one needed to come to 'the room' ... this class is a shining example of what the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing mean by 'Fair Sailing'.

The 40th Australian Tasar Titles in Victor Harbor in SA are well supported by the event sponsor Southern Diesel and Marine, Gold Sponsors Ronstan, NB Sailsports and Coriole Vineyards, along with Victor Harbor Yacht Club and the City of Victor Harbor. Scott Kither from Southern Diesel and Marine commented 'that the regatta is well organised and I feel privileged to be part of this event, particularly as a former Tasar sailor'.

Racing continues tomorrow ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations at Victor Harbor Yacht Club, and again on Wednesday January 2nd following a rest day on New Year’s Day. Oogy Wawa website
