Sail Sydney 2012 Day 2 - Belcher-Ryan tandem perfect out of 17 races

At the conclusion of the second day of racing at Sail Sydney 2012 the new Australian men’s 470 team of Mathew Belcher and Will Ryan have won seventeen out of the seventeen races they have competed in since pairing up.

Racing competitively together in the 470s for the first time at Sail Melbourne, Belcher and Ryan had a clean sweep winning ten out of the ten races held. Now, with three races on the first day and four on the second day of Sail Sydney, they are breaking records for winning streaks.

The pair had their usual modest attitude when asked how they felt about the wins. 'Seventeen is a good number, I can’t complain.' said Ryan laughing. 'We have trained together for a long time, and winning like this certainly helps reinforce our partnership.' commented Belcher.

Their coach Victor Kovalenko was equally as happy though in his indomitable style he did not show it. 'I think this must be a new record.' he said. His quiet smile gave away his thoughts but he of all people knows that there is always more to be done.

Matthew Crawford and Robert Crawford (AUS) hold second place in the men’s 470 class on eighteen points, with Alexander Conway and Patrick Conway (AUS) in third on twenty-eight points.

In the women’s 470 class Sasha Ryan and Rike Belcher (AUS) are first on nine points after the first two days, Elise Rechichi and Sarah Cook (AUS) are second on fifteen, and Jacqueline Gurr and Georgie Turner (AUS) round out the top three on twenty-four points.

Sail Sydney continues over the weekend with more classes joining in for all the Sydney Sail 2012
