NZL Youth Sailing Team All Within Top 10 After Day 2 At World Championships
by Louise Andrews on 22 Jul 2003
Madeira, Portugal - at the end of day two with five races on the board the 2003 Yachting New Zealand Youth Team are all within the top 10 of their respective classes at the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Madeira.
Veteran Youth Team member Anna Eason is the top scoring New Zealander at the regatta currently in 3rd place in the women's boardsailing class. Team Manager, Paul Page, attributes this result to her good instinctive feeling for the conditions which have been a real test for the sailors. Page reports, ‘the biggest challenge with the conditions is the 200m high cliffs with the top mark only 100m offshore, this produces extremely gusty, shifty, nasty pressure lines and deviations which are unpredictable and which require the sailors! to concentrate on placing themselves in the correct position both upwind and downwind’.
There are four more days of racing sheduled with the regatta finishing on July 25th.
