The third official season of the Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association (CICSA) has come to a close and we are very excited to release our first ever National University Rankings for collegiate sailing in Canada! This season featured some very exciting races at the National Fleet Racing Championships hosted by the McGill University Redbirds and the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club.

The weekend of October 26-27 brought eight teams from all across the Country, including both coasts for the CICSA Fleet Racing National Championships.

This event saw a major rise in the stakes of collegiate sailing in Canada as it would determine for the first time, the national rankings for Canadian collegiate sailors; as a result the level of competition was very high! Despite the light winds just days prior to the passing of Hurricane Sandy, nine close races were sailed in A and B fleet in the RSLYCs Club 420’s with several schools jockeying for the lead.

After the ninth and final race, it was McGill University who were best able to overcome the challenging light winds and heavy current of the St. Lawrence to earn themselves the title of Canadian University Fleet Racing Champions and to finish atop the 2012-2013 CICSA University Sailing Rankings.

Final Fleet Racing National results and current CICSA 2012-2013 National Ranking:

1. McGill University Redbirds
2. Dalhousie University Tigers
3. Queen’s University Gaels
4. University of British Columbia Thunderbirds
5. University of Ottawa Gee-gees
6. Royal Military College of Canada Paladins
7. HEC Montreal Carabins
8. McMaster University Marauders
