The 2012 Brazilian Hobie Cat 14 and 16 Championships were held November, 10-16 in Mucuripe bay at Fortaleza city, capital of Ceará state, northeast of Brazil. We were fortunate that more than forty sailors made the long trip to attend the event.

Together with local sailors whom are usual to strong winds always blowing there, we had representatives from Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo, Sergipe, Bahia, Pernambuco and Paraíba states.

The championship started with two races traditional races, 'Ney Pacheco' for HC 14 and 'Mario Jose Dubeux Junior' for HC 16, a tribute for two persons that made history in the class. As expected, strong winds blew consistently throughout the championship, testing the skills of all competitors. At the end in Hobie 14 Fabio Espinar was crowned as the new Brazilian champion and the battle for Hobie Cat 16 title after ten races was intense till the last minute when the top two teams, skippers Bernardo Arndt and Claudio Cardoso, were tied with thirteen (13) points each. Only tiebreaker rules decided who is the new Hobie 16 national champion.

Final results:

Hobie Cat 16:

1 - Bernardo Arndt/ Bruno Oliveira
2 - Claudio Cardoso/ Carla Nottingham
3 - Sergio Godoy/ Denis Tassone

Hobie Cat 14

1 - Fábio Espinar
