The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania will have a very special guest on Tuesday as Clipper Race winner Richard Hewson will share his experience during the round-the-world yacht race and then announce his plan for next year.

Tasmanian Richard Hewson, the skipper of the winning yacht Gold Coast Australia in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2011-12, is considering to new ocean racing challenges, the 2013 Mini Transat Race and the 2024 Global Ocean Race,

Hewson will outline his future plans when he presents ‘Winning the Clipper Round the World Race’ at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania this coming Tuesday evening, 27 November.

After five Sydney Hobarts, a Fastnet and numerous ocean crossing in the Atlantic and Pacific decided to take on the Clipper Race as a professional skipper of an amateur crew and won by a record margin.

Hewson, who learned to sail in dinghies on Hobart’s River Derwent, has been enjoying day racing on the river, including racing aboard the Farr 40, Wired.

He will tell and illustrate his story of the, at times, dramatic Clipper Race to members and guests at the club at 7pm on Tuesday. 'You don’t have to be a member to attend; the entrance fee is just $25, and junior sailors are free,' an RYCT spokesman said today.
