O'Pen World Cup - A great 4 days on the Bay

by Tamme Flood on 5 Nov 2012
2012 O’Pen Bic World Cup Championship Tamme Flood http://www.worldopenbicmiami.com/
The official end of the O'Pen Bic World Cup Championship in Miami contained some surprises and a lot of smiles! It was a great four days on the Bay, and many new international friendships were formed. There were some lovely moments...at the end of the last race, the entire spectator boat cheered for each one of the last four sailors crossing the finish line - in addition to the sailors from their home countries. Wonderful!

There were the teams that came from halfway around the world, the mom who drove for seven days to deliver her daughter's boat, and the 44 year old mom who sailed in the O'Pen Bic open alongside her daughter! We were sad for the sailor from Bermuda who broke his foot on the first day - playing football! It was amazing to have such good camaraderie among competitors - and good manners all around.

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers, parents, sponsors and organizers who made this event such an international success. Much of the work happened behind the scenes before the 2012 World Open Bic races even began. It was truly amazing to watch everyone involved work so hard so that these sailors could do what they love to do - Sail! Thanks again...

Bon Voyage to all of our international visitors...see you in Italy!
