Marmaris International Race Week – Great sailing on Day 4 + Video

Marmaris International Race Week – Marmaris has changed a lot in recent years thanks to tourism, but the village still features many quiet spots, even in the midst of a world class event like the International Race Week, now in its fourth day. It is rather cloudy today in Turkey, with a chance of rain, and great wind patterns for sailing – the wind occasionally reached 15 knots!

There were some great sailing moments from the teams gathered here in Marmaris in the course of an eventful fourth day: the risky moves from ‘Flying Box’ and the clever tactics from ‘Sail n Sail’ in IRC fleets 1 and 2; the expert playing of the shifts from Boni Staff Pineapple in the IRC Charter 1 and 2; the rivalry of Iscorpit and Eker Yayik Ayran in the IRC fleets 3 and 4; and the excellent choices and agility from Attila 2, in the IRC Charter 3 and 4.

The finish of the race, at the entrance of the Bay of Marmaris was also quite remarkable. These colourful spinnakers became part of a truly stunning picture as the sunlight pierced the clouds and was reflected in the sea around the boats now sailing downwind.

The International Race Week has grown into a world class event these days, and Allianz insurance, sponsoring this event for the last 23 years, has played a key role in this respect. For tomorrow, only a single inshore race is scheduled, so everything will be judged there, since all the top teams are all really close to one another. The weather forecast shows light winds. Racing inside the bay might prove tricky, considering that light winds are expected.
