The NSW Police Force’s Marine Area Command will celebrate 150 years with a free family day at the National Maritime Museum, Darling Harbour, on Sunday 25th November 2012. The action-packed day will include a wealth of activities and demonstrations for all the family including dramatic Pol Air helicopter and dive rescue displays.

The Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit will be abseiling off the museum’s Cape Bowling Green Lighthouse and also demonstrating how they cut people free from wrecked cars. Plus there will be demonstrations from the Dog Squad and the opportunity to meet the Mounted Police.

The Marine Area Command will also have its off-shore patrol and dive boat Nemesis on display for visitors to climb aboard with serving Water Police on hand to answer questions about dramatic rescues. A special exhibition telling the story of the Marine Area Command’s 150 year history will also be on display.

There’ll be plenty of activities for the kids with face painters, give aways and a specially -themed Water Police activity program where children can make their own patrol boat and badges to take home. They’ll also play siren and radio games (entry charges apply).

NSW Police Recruitment staff will also be on hand to provide information about Police careers.

Superintendent Mark Hutchings, Commander of the Marine Area Command, said the day would be informative, entertaining and celebratory.

'Not only will the day provide a great deal of entertainment for the people who attend, it will give them a first hand look into the work the Marine Area Command and other specialist police undertake on a daily basis,' Superintendent Hutchings said.

'It also provides us with a wonderful opportunity to share our proud 150 year history with the people of NSW and to show them how far we have come in the last century and a half.'

The NSW Marine Police Family Day forms part of the Force’s 150th Anniversary Celebrations, which will continue until the end of this year.

The Australian National Maritime Museum, in Darling Harbour, is open daily from 9.30 am to 5 pm. All inquiries, (02) 9298 3777 or visit www.anmm.gov.au.
