One of Australia’s best know yacht designers Joe Adams, has been murdered in the Philippines, according to the latest wire-reports
81 year Adams was apparently killed on Sunday, with his throat slashed and his body was found by his gardener at his home in thecity of Baguio, which is in Benguet Province, in the country's north.
Adams designed the 1973 record-breaking Sydney-Hobart line honours winner Helsal, was a high-profile figure within the Australian yachting community.
AAP reported today that Mr Adams lived in Sydney during his heyday as a designer but in later life moved to Port Macquarie, on NSW's mid north coast.He then moved to the Philippines and continued designing yachts before selling his business and retiring.
Sydney yacht designer Graham Radford was on board Helsal when it took the 1973 line honours and says Mr Adams mentored him in yacht design throughout the 1970s.
Some of facets of those designs are still in existence today,amongst the best known being the Adams 10 and Adams 12's.
'Joe was a great designer from back in the 1970s and I was privileged to work with him,' Mr Radford told AAP.
'... As a designer he was an excellent natural - one of the best and I was extremely fortunate that I could learn from him.'
