America's Cup- Oracle Team US's AC72 on Day 7 on San Francisco Bay

by Erik Simonson on 16 Oct 2012
Oracle Team USA - Day 7 - October 15, 2012 - Erik Simonson/ pressure-drop.us http://www.pressure-drop.us

Erik Simonson from www.pressure-drop.us joined the AC racer chasers club today on San Francisco Bay trying to get in position to get shots of Oracle Team USA's AC72 in action.

He reports:

An afternoon spent chasing the Oracle 72' yields limited success, just when you think you have a bead on their angle of attack, they gybe or tack, and despite the sizable ebb, they are gone in a heart beat.

Lots of long legs on the north side of the bay, where the wind was strongest, high teens and lower 20's...runs deep the edge of the Berkeley flats and back again...quit a few foiling moments, but nothing I witnessed sustained. A long day for crew, which sail past 17:00.

Work does not slow when the crew hits the dock, with tasks galore for all. Here the mast base counterweight is hoisted.

Despite a slow start, with their broken daggerboard on the first day, Oracle are catching up and completed their sevevnth day of training today, according to thehttp://noticeboard.americascup.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/AC72SailingDays.pdf!Official_Notice_Board
