Pure Blonde fires the first bullet of the Australian 18 Footer League's 2012 - 2013 season.......Tom Clout, Rob Bell, and Matt Wark took their race to the other challengers on Sunday, and shot away for a comfortable win in Heat 1 of the Big Brown Box 3 Buoy Handicap Series.
As a point score series, this contest will be hard fought, as www.bigbrownbox.com.au has put $10,000 cash on the table for the crews to fight over throughout the eight races, which concludes on the 9th December.
The 3 Buoy handicap race sees the 19 boat fleet scratch start, all sailing in the same water, and then at the end of each windward beat, three turn marks, 100mtrs. apart, shape the race and the many lead changes that occur, which adds excitement for the spectators throughout the race.
Kenwood Rabbitohs, Brett Van Munster, Kieryn Cowan, and Joel Castle battled with Pure Blonde around the same turn marks all day being, red, red, red, blue and these two skiffs had too much handicap distance for the Scratch marker Gotta Luv it 7 who lead early but had too much distance to cover on the day being maxed out on four white buoy roundings. The always dogged Michael Coxon with Dave O'Connor and Nathan Ellis did enough to beat John Sweeney's De'Longhi Rabbitohs into third spot to fill the podium.
James Williams won Pick the Podium yesterday.....and will receive a pair of beautiful
Barz Optics Floater Sunnies, and a SLAM Cap and T shirt for his entry of Thurlow Fisher Lawyers and Pure Blonde. James also is awarded the Bragging Rights for the rest of the week......nice one James.
Can you Pick the Podium?.....it's fun and free to enter, simply
logon and register through the Pick the Podium tab and have a crack.
