HyDrive's electrohydraulic power steering suits hi-performance craft

The ‘Heart’ of HyDrive’s HD12VDC Power steering pump - HyDrive's new compact electro-hydraulic power steering for high performance boats. Grahame Anderson
HyDrive Engineering of South Australia announces the release of the new compact Series II Electro Hydraulic 12VDC Power Steering to suit any brand or horsepower of outboard motor on high performance craft including jet boats, ski boats and pursuit vessels.

Tried and proven for over ten years on extreme performance boats, the Series II Power Steering offers lighter and smoother control for large horsepower boats that require small turn ratios, and re-enforces HyDrive’s position as the largest exporter of marine steering systems in the Southern Hemisphere.

The heart of the Series II package is the microprocessor-controlled pump unit which senses loads and delivers pressures up to 1000psi, handling the most powerful applications with finger-tip control on the wheel. Any movement at the wheel is instant and without delay as this is not a servo system. In the event of a power failure to the electronic pump unit, the steering helm immediately and automatically converts to a manual hydraulic pump, ensuring full control is maintained.

The system can be used to upgrade existing steering and may be installed as a complete steering unit. The pump unit comes as a package with a single station steering helm unit which delivers 50cc per rev giving very direct steering with a turn’s ratio on a 210Bullhorn outboard steering cylinder of only three turns lock to lock. Models are also available for stern-drives and inboard rudders.

For more information on HyDrive Engineering’s full range of steering systems for vessels ranging from 5m to 150 metres visit the HyDrive website or email sales@hydrive.com.au phone: 08 8243 1633.
