The Nautic SUP Paris Crossing, organised by Nautic to open the Nautic Paris Boat Show from the 8th -16th December 2012 in Porte de Versailles, has become one of the leading international events in this fast-growing sport. Some 200 competitors divided into two categories--Pro and Leisure—will confront each other on the 9th December under the Eiffel Tower with specialized courses to create a fleet and a spectacular event.
The race will start in the early hours of the morning in front of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and the finish decided at the Quai de Javel as in previous years. In addition to having doubled the number of competitors, the new feature for 2012 is that the professional racers will have to circle the Ile St Louis, which promises a nice concentration of paddlers all along the fifteen kilometre course.
The top stand-up-paddle specialists on the world circuit will almost all be there, with among others the Naish international team, a partner in the event together with Microsoft and MyGeolive. You could therefore see on the Seine: Kai Lenny, the golden boy, two-time world Stand-Up champion in the waves, as well as the current leader of the world championship SUP Race, the rustproof Eric Terrien, winner of the previous years’ races, the legendary Robby Naish in person, and Antoine Albeau, the 19-time world windsurfing champion voted ‘sailor of the year’ in 2010.
France’s national sea rescue organisation the Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer will be overseeing the safety measures. The second half of the event will be a timed leg fought out in the indoor pool at Nautic, called Le Spot. Registration has been open on the website since 8th September and already close to half of the places have been taken…
