by Sabrina Bonaiti on 26 Sep 2012
Platu 25 World Championship - first day Ainhoa Sanchez Vidales
On the first day of the Platu 25 World Championship, following three very competitive races, with very strong wind – more than 25 knots – 'Euz Monella Vagabonda' owned by Francesco Lanera, helmed by Sandro Montefusco and racing under the Yacht Club di Cala de’ Medici, dominated. Anton and Carlos Paz’s 'Mar de Fredes' is second, in the general provisional overall, at same points with Jose Perez’s 'Sperry-Coppel Dental'.

A West Wind, around six knots flowing, allowed the first race to be competed from 2.30 p.m to around 3.30 p.m. The Italian team 'Hurrà' from Tuscany, helmed by Francesco Lagirti and with the sails-maker Angelo Costa on board (Yacht Club Cala de' Medici), dominated the first race, followed by the Swiss team Sail Art Team’s 'Aramis' helmed by Martin Sigrist. The Italian crew 'Euz II Monella Vagabonda' owned by Francesco Lanera and helmed by Sandro Montefusco – 2011 World Champion and 2012 Italian Champion in the Platu 25 class - reached the finish line as a third.

The second race put the crews on hard probation. The wind turned into Scirocco and increased up to 20 knots, giving great emotions and very competitive moments to 50 crews that are taking part in the first day of the Platu 25 World Championship. In this second race, Anton and Carlos Paz’s 'Mar de Fredes' – one of the favourite boats – reached the finish line as a first followed by an other Spanish boat 'Sperry Coppel Dental' of Alfredo Mella and José Perez. The Swiss 'Aramis' leaded by Martin Sigrist concluded third and doubled the very good position obtained in the first race.

With a wind more and more angry, the third race concluded at twilight. The Italian 'Euz Monella Vagabonda' reached the finish line as a first, followed by the Spanish Fernando Morillo’s 'Sori' helmed by Ramon Oreja and by 'Mar de Fredes'.

Tomorrow the Platu 25 World Championship will carry on. First race schedule at 11 a.m.
