by Helena de la Gándara López-Alonso on 30 Jun 2003
Since 1999, year of the Telefónica Movistar´s birth , the objectives pointed in the beginning has been done , year by year. The first steps , had a protagonist - the One Off Farr 49 ‘Bribón Telefónica ‘ with the triumph at Trofeo Principe de Asturias, celebrated in Bayona (Spain.

Since then, the team took a new dimension towards national and international races getting several national great triumphs , and for the first time for Spain, the victory on the Sardinia Cup 2000, during an impressive championship, in which Spain (Farr 53 Bribón+ IMX 40 Telefónica MoviStar + IMX 40 E-Moción) win by a point on the overall classification over the Italian Team (Farr 49 Brava Q8 + Farr 43 Mascalzone Latino + GS ’40 Blue Star).

During the year 2001, the Team put all the effort on the IMS Spanish Championship, in which won in both classes (IMS500 and IMS600).On the IMS500 Class, the José Cusí´s Farr 53 ‘Bribon Telefónica Movistar’ , steered by HM The King D. Juan Carlos and Pedro Campos, was able to raise itself with the Spanish Championship, Trofeo Caixa Galicia or the Trofeo Presidente de la Xunta in Galicia. The IMX 40 ‘Telefónica Movistar’ (IMS600) almost counted the participations like victories , being steered by the pre-olympic for the Athens Olympic Games Gonzalo Araujo and Pedro Campos.

Other great triumphs that year , was the second place at the IMS500 World Championship with the IMX40 ‘Telefónica Movistar’. On the Rolex IMS World. The team, leader the world championship until the last day but a suddenly drop of the intensity of wind on the last race, detained the win of the Spanish Team on the IMS World Championship celebrated in Valencia , one of the pre selected sites for the next America’s Cup

The 2002 sailing season, has been the best one for the Spanish team.Them, with the Rodman 42 as the main active boat , has win the prestigious Copa del Rey on IMS600 (the third win for Campos on this Trophy) like the triumph in all the regattas that has participated (Semana Nautica de Osborne, Trofeo Caixa Galicia, Trofeo Principe de Asturias, Trofeo Presidente de la Xunta and several regattas on the Canary Islands) and the world-wide title celebrated in October in Bayona

The year 2003, since the beginning , has been really promising, winning against the bets on the IMS World Championship on the waters of Capri. The importance of this triumph departs of the presence of the powerful and new units on the water, like Grand Soleil ‘56 X-Sport or the Chieffi´s Farr 53 Orlanda. The Telefónica Movistar Team has obtained in less that one year two World Championships (IMS500 and IMS600)

The Rodman 42 and the team have received the prize as the best project and as the best team in Spain, given by KPMG.

For the Admiral’s Cup the Real Club Nautico of Sangenjo represented by the team, will reckon with the new JK ‘55 ‘Bribón Telefónica MoviStar’ owner by José Cusí and steered by HM the King of Spain, and will be supported with Eddie Owen, Buowe Bekking and Ib Andersen. For IMS600 the team, will sail with the successful Rodman 42 ‘Telefonica Movistar’ with a stern core shaped with Pedro Campos, Juan Vila and Jens Cristenssen.

The objetive: to obtain the best position for Spain on the Admiral’s Cup history and to be on the first positions like an individual way or like team
