The 2012 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is now underway and the Yacht Club of Saint-Petersburg, Russia’s, Swan 60 entry has pulled in a consistent result on day one of racing in the Mini Maxi Class at what is the annual meeting of the world’s largest yachts. Enjoying the Sardinian conditions of early September, the port of Porto Cervo is filled to bursting with a most eclectic fleet of Maxi’s.
With 34 international Maxi yachts taking part in this year’s regatta, some of the world’s leading sailing talent can be found on the race track and coupled with a light breeze of nine knots provided a good challenge for the Swan 60, Bronenosec.
The cosmopolitan team worked consistently together in order to generate a fifth place in Race One.
Skipper, Tomasso Chieffi, is positive commenting on the Swan 60’s performance today: 'The team worked in a very efficient manner today. We had a good start and a clean race; the boat went very quickly. We won the unofficial cruising division and also beat Stig which is a racing boat so we’re very happy with today’s race. We’ve beefed up the crew, got new sails and cleaned the bottom so each day the boat is performing better and better. It was a light race today so it will be interesting to see how we do tomorrow in the breezier weather.'
The team will race three coastal races and four windward/leeward races over the course of the regatta.
