by IFDS on 2 Sep 2012
Sonar racing on day two of the 2012 Paralympic Sailing Competition David Staley - IFDS
The first day of the London 2012 Paralympic Sailing Competition at Weymouth and Portland was a fantastic opening day of sailing and more of the same is expected today across the three Paralympic sailing events.

A west south westerly wind will be prevalent today blowing 10-12 knots with gusts of up to 15 knots across the Portland Harbour Course.

A full weather report is available here.

With a four point lead in the 2.4mR Helena Lucas (GBR) will want to keep hold of top position today when 2.4mR racing gets underway at 11:10. One of her rivals for gold, Damien Seguin (FRA), was disqualified from Race 2 yesterday and he will have to sail a near perfect competition from today.

It was a British and Australian battle in the SKUD18 as Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell (GBR) and Dan Fitzgibbon and Liesl Tesch (AUS) reignited their rivalry. The teams are level on three points and every point matters from now. The 11-boat fleet sets sail at 11:00.

Consistency proves key in sailing and Australia's Colin Harrison, Jonathan Harris and Stephen Churm put in a steady opening day Sonar performance in yesterday. They lead on four points and will want an equally impressive performance on day two to solidify their Disabled Sailing London 2012 Paralympic Website
