Hot fleet shaping up for the APC Logistics LCMR2012 regatta

by Doug Cuming on 29 Aug 2012
Team Australia takes off at over 30 knots in the APC Logistics LCMR2011 - Lock Crowther Multihull Regatta 2012 Doug Cuming
A strong fleet is shaping up for the 2012 APC Lock Crowther Multihull Regatta starting on September 28th. Sean Langman’s giant 60 foot trimaran Team Australia is set to return along with 30 other trimarans and catamarans.

Last year Team Australia provided spectacular video footage in the ocean race racing out of Broken Bay at over 30 knots.

She will be followed by other speedsters including Melbourne Grainger cat Mad Max (Tony Considine), with locals Indian Chief (Darren Drew), Voodoo Spirit (Doug Cuming), Quickstep (Jason Geddes), Lukim Yu (Club Captain Robin Ottowa). A large contingent of Corsair and Farrier trimarans will make up most of the racing fleet with boats coming from Sydney Harbour, Lake Macquarie and interstate.

This year a focus will be made to encourage cruising boats to join in the non-spinnaker Cruising Division and will now include a social picnic planned on the Monday following the racing to encourage all multihullers to join even if they are not participating in the preceding races. This will include a strong Seawind contingent with other cruising catamarans that enjoy the cruising delights of Broken Bay and the surrounding anchorages.

The LCMR2012 will be run out of the RMYC Broken Bay club in Newport and will start with the Blue Water Classic ocean race prologue on the Friday, followed by four inshore races on the Saturday and Sunday.

The Notice of Race and further details are available on the RMYC Multihulls Lock Crowther Multihull Regatta website

As well as the Monday social picnic, a social programme includes social events on Friday and Saturday evenings and the Presentation Dinner on the Sunday where the LCMR2012 winners will receive generous prizes provided by sponsors.

VidPicPro will again be making a video of the event and will be taking photos of the boats as they race around the marks.

A launching ramp is located close by and parking is available for trailers. A berth or mooring can also be provided by contacting the RMYC on 02 9997 5511.

APC Logistics, an Australian based international air and sea freight forwarder, is supporting the regatta for the seventh time as principal sponsor. Key sponsor is Sean Langman’s Noakes Group providing slipping, shipwright and rigging services. Other RMYC Multihull sponsors include: Quantum, Tactical Directions, Hood Sailmakers, Barracouta Sails, , Contender/Selden, Multihull World magazine, Summit Coatings, Geddes Optical, Mitre 10, David Bray Yachts, Two Rivers wines.
