Marina opens by offering free berths - in Oman

by Des Ryan on 15 Aug 2012
the Wave - offering free berths for the rest of the summer SW
There's nothing like offering a free marina berth to attract cruising sailors, but this one may be too far away to take advantage of the offer. Still, when the Indian Ocean becomes less hazardous it might be interesting to know that there are good berths for from 10metre boats upwards in Muscat Oman.

The Wave, Muscat, has announced that its award-winning Almouj Marina is now welcoming boats and is offering complimentary special berthing for the rest of the summer, ahead of its Autumn grand opening.

With the first 120 berths now complete, Almouj Marina is being developed with state-of-the-art facilities by The Wave, Muscat. Extra wide walkways will lead boaters to on-water lounge areas, while a golf cart service to and from berths will be available. The marina will also become home to Oman’s leading sailing school, Oman Sail, and their roster of exciting events.

Wayne Shepherd, General Manager, Marina Operations at Mourjan Marinas IGY, said: 'The Almouj Marina is now open at The Wave, Muscat, and looks set to become the premier marina destination in Oman. We’ve carefully developed every detail to ensure that Mourjan Marina IGY’s renowned global expertise is felt in the design and build of the marina, and also in its lifestyle offerings, which our company prides itself on.'

The Wave, Muscat has recently appointed new Marina Manager, Khalil AbuJaber. AbuJaber will be responsible for the full operations management of Oman’s flagship marina, overseeing the day-to-day management of the facility and continuing to deliver the trademark world-class service associated with Mourjan Marinas IGY.

He joins The Wave, Muscat with 11 years of experience, working most recently in Aqabar, Jordan for Talabay, where he amassed solid experience managing cross-functional teams, providing and enforcing the highest standards at the popular Red Sea holiday destination.

The marina also welcomed its first yacht earlier this summer, captained by Briton John Gay: 'The retail and food and beverage offerings in the marina’s vicinity are great,' said Gay. 'It’s clear that every need has been catered for. The location is excellent and the entrance is very accessible, whilst being well protected from any ocean surges due to the well built breakwater, making it ideal for the monsoon seasons. I’m delighted to be one of the first captain’s to moor my yacht, the Al Ghanem in the marina.'

The marina can accommodate yachts between 10-65m in length, and has 120 modern floating berths completed for the 2012/13 yachting season. The fully marinascaped destination includes signature traits shared by other Mourjan Marina IGY-managed facilities, including five-star concierge, chandlery and yacht management services.

Almouj Marina also offers boat cleaning and maintenance packages, including deck wash for all yachts. Located within The Wave, Muscat, boaters have easy access to The Wave’s Greg Norman-designed signature golf course, Almouj Golf, as well as the chance to take in some of Oman’s breathtaking natural scenery.

And it's free - how can you resist? All you have to do is get there.
