Brewin Dolphin Jersey Regatta - Excitement and added challenge awaits

by Bill Harris on 15 Aug 2012
Class 1, Start A - Brewin Dolphin Jersey Regatta Bill Harris http://www.shyc.je/Jersey-Regatta//
The Brewin Dolphin Jersey Regatta is set to take place from the 7th-9th September and excitement is mounting on the beautiful Channel Island of Jersey, lying some 18 kilometres off the Normandy coast. Regatta organiser Bill Harris said that Brewin Dolphin’s keen support coupled with the enthusiasm of the combined clubs has seen the Regatta go from strength-to-strength, providing much enjoyment for sailors of all ages and experience and a great opportunity to compete against and enjoy the company of visitors from the other islands and beyond.

Three days of competitive racing for sportsboat, cruiser/racer, dayboat dinghy and sport-catamaran classes, coupled with the tremendous camaraderie and fun of the nightly social events, are sure to keep sailors busy and fully immersed in the great atmosphere of this first class event. Whilst following the long-established competitive format, this year sees the introduction of a non-spinnaker cruiser class for sailors of a more leisurely persuasion and the return of the Formula 18 sport-catamaran class.

Dinghy, dayboat and sport-catamaran classes will be racing in St Aubin’s Bay whilst the sportsboat and cruiser classes compete over Olympic-type courses further to the south. With the numbers of visiting boats growing year-on-year, Jersey’s sailors are looking forward to the added challenge and excitement that visitors bring to the event.

The closing date for entries is Tuesday 4th September but skippers should note that discounted fees apply up to midday Wednesday 22nd August, a real incentive to get their entries in Jersey Regatta website
