Cowes Week - Prestigious Britannia Cup to be awarded

The Britannia Cup is one of the most prestigious prizes at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week and today, IRC Class 0 will compete in order to claim it. The Cup will be awarded to the winner of the class today and formally presented at the Royal Yacht Squadron prizegiving on Friday 17 August.

The history of the Britannia Cup dates back to 1950 when Sir Peter Scott suggested to King George VI that the larger yachts should compete for a new trophy because it was felt the America’s Cup couldn’t be restarted after the war. King George agreed and presented the trophy to the Royal Yachting Association and named it the Britannia Cup.
