Canada at the Yellow Sea International Yacht Race

Interesting times in South Korea! The Korean Sailing Federation has organized a major offshore event in a short timeframe with much needed government financial support.

While myself and fellow Halifax sailor, Simon Zeh were originally invited to represent Canada, the organizing committee decided to group the Americans, Dan Liberty and Gerry Tullo, with ourselves and create 'Team North America'. We're racing an Etap 34 provided to us by the Race Committee and I will be skipper. A Korean media person and the boat owner will join us during the race

The forecast looks incredibly light and with a time limit of 39 hours for a 390 km race, most boats are topping up on diesel fuel for Leg 1 to China. The RC it seems is working on an alternate plan for a shortened course.

There's a tropical storm to the south of us that just hit mainland China and most of us are hoping that it will drift North sooner than later. There's absolutely no wind 100 miles out.

The event consists of three offshore legs:

Incheon, Korea to Weihai, China
390 km

Weihai, China to Qingdao, China
340 km

Qingdao, China to Incheon, Korea
550 km

Stay tuned for more stories!
