Royal Port Nicholson Youth Scheme's Tim Coltman, James de Lisle and Adam Middleton have won the 2012 Governors Cup in style. Coltman and his team defeated Dave Hazard from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, 3-0 in the final.

'We are so excited to have won the Gov’s Cup' Coltman commented. 'We have been improving all week, we have been fast, and we knew we could win the Gov’s Cup' Coltman went on to say.

Gov’s Cup is held out of the Balboa Yacht Club, Newport Beach, California. 12 teams from 4 nations Including Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and USA made up a very tough field. With plenty of sunshine and steady winds, there was plenty of action through out the whole week of Match Racing.

'It wasn’t all plane sailing for us' Middleton mentioned. After the round robin stages the Youth Scheme Team made it into the semi finals with only two points separating them from being eliminated. From there they had to take on defending champion and series leaders, Nevin Snow from the San Diego yacht Club in the Simi finals.

On the Final day of the regatta Coltman and team were on fire. They closed out there semi final winning the series convincingly 3-1. From there they progressed to the finals. The experience of Coltman started to show, applying pressure throughout the whole first match, Coltman and his Youth Scheme Team came away with the first scalp. From there Tim Coltman, James de Lisle and Adam Middleton went onto win the next two matches and take the finals series in a well deserved victory 3-0.

Wellington Spirit Sailor Matthew Steven has been working with the team and coached them over at the Gov’s Cup. 'It is fantastic to see the continued depth and skill of sailors that are coming out of the Wellington Youth Scheme Programme, this is Tim's last Youth Match Racing Event, and so it’s great to see him finish his youth sailing on a high' Matt explained
