Flying 11 Australian Nationals - Outteridge shares Flying 11 knowledge

The Gill Flying 11 Australian Championship poses a serious challenge for Lake Macquarie Flying 11 sailor Owen Long, but he is banking on the tips he got from fellow Lake Macquarie sailor and Olympic 49er Class gold medallist Nathan Outteridge.

Both Nathan and Owen were spectators for their respective sisters, who are competing in the 9er Classes Australian Titles at McCrae, Victoria this week. Nathan was also testing his new foiling moth, whilst Owen was preparing for the Flying 11 Australian Championships, with a Flying 11 Association boat which is used for demonstration purposes in Victoria.

Nathan Outteridge won the Flying 11 Australian title back in 2000, with his Olympic 49er team-mate Iain Jensen in a boat named 'Just Do It'. From there in 13 years, the pair have risen to the pinnacle of sailing, by winning the gold medal for 49er Class at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Nathan speaks highly of the merits of the Flying 11 Class, for what it has to offer junior sailors in their sailing development from training classes through to youth classes, before moving onto senior olympic classes.

The Flying 11 Class is once again expecting a 100 boat fleet to gather for their Australian Championship, which are being held on Sydney's Botany Bay, and conducted from St.George Sailing Club from January 14th to 19th, 2013.
