Tension, amusement, instruction and great information - Cruising News!
There's tension, amusement, instruction and plenty of information you'll want to hear about in this weeks edition of our Cruising News - but before you continue, can you figure out the image above?
There are so many stories to enjoy. I couldn't stop laughing at the Irish story about the boat that found itself in the wrong part of town. I empathised with the sailors whose bulkhead broke in the middle of the Atlantic and, with their Jack Russell, were sure they were going to die. Then, as someone who has survived sailing through the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, I was intrigued by the story about the state of piracy in the world today. Luckily the three Australians stranded after their dinghy drifted away had watched lots of movies and knew exactly what to do:
SOS .. .
For those with their eyes on a distant horizon, there's a new cruising rally you can join after crossing the Pacific – the 'Sail2Indonesia' Rally, which eases the way through the remote and complicated Indonesian archipelago. With piracy in that area on the increase, it's good to get the 'good oil' from organisers.
Florida sailors are rejoicing that their anchoring rights have not been compromised, but that's only for the moment. Let's hope rationality will prevail in the end.
Two nice products are featured this week – the bimini that won't let you down even in 30kts of wind, and some sleek, low-draw LED lights for bow lights. John Jamieson is back with some docking advice for a tricky situation.
With the weather getting warmer every week, it's time to start thinking about where you'll be sailing on the solstice, the 21st June. If John Arndt has his way you'll be joining other sailors for the global Summer Sailstice – a great way to celebrate the longest day of the year!
