Ozzies and Kiwi honoured, amazing whale pics, cruising seminars

It's Boxing Day, and in Australia that means the Sales are on - they are also on in the sailing world, so read the bargains in some of the stories below.

Great to see two Australians and a New Zealander honoured internationally in the Annual Sail Training and Tall Ships Conference held last month in Aalborg in Denmark. Congratulations all - nice pre-Christmas present, and you've made all us Downunder sailors proud.

John and Lyn Martin of the Island Cruising Association are in the news again this week with some advice for all you stay-at-homes on how to get out there and go cruising - and, no matter where you intend to sail, don't forget to book for their highly valuable cruising seminars, coming to a town near you - anywhere from Perth to Cairns and in New Zealand, in the New Year.

Watching Sail-World news, you might have your long-range cruising dreams changed as various countries behave in cruiser-friendly, or unfriendly ways. Mexico and Greece are in the news this week. Read how Mexico has suddenly embargoed over 300 visiting yachts, sometimes for no infraction at all; and Greece is giving out mixed messages with suddenly higher taxes but planning to increase their facilities to attract more yachts.

Sailing in Mexico used to be a dream holiday - but not any more...  .. .

Leisure sailors are being attracted to boat shows with more and more educational seminars. This week we talk of the Seattle Boat Show, just about to start, with an amazing 200 seminars over the nine days of the show. So will the next boat show you attend closer to home be full of seminars? Watch this space!

Have you had a close encounter with a whale? Most stories that come in to Sail-World are joyous experiences, but just how vulnerable a boat is shows in some incredible photos taken by a diver this week.

Whale below dive boat - this could be you  .. .

In the meantime, Sail-World goes from strength to strength, not only the largest online sailing magazine in the world, but now translated into 78 languages. Remember, we're always looking for good stories, so keep the contributions coming!

Read on, and sweet celebrating as the strong current of time pushes us steadily into a Brand New Year!

Nancy Knudsen, Editor.

Is it WoM or some other virus with Pantaenius Insurance?
John Curnow,
Honestly, what does one really mean by that? Well, quite simply, is it Word of Mouth or its Digital Age cousin, viral marketing, that has seen Pantaenius not only grow, but also begin to make a significant impact in Asia Pacific waters?
