Awards, SCIBS netting newcomers, Environment Minister reveals all
It's a mixed bag of industry, product and event stories this week.
Firstly, off the back of exceptional Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show stats, results and exhibitor feedback, the US economy is reporting record low unemployment figures and good gains for the first time in four years.
So too are Australian exporters. In the tradition of extrapolation, locally, manufacturers and dealers are experiencing a more positive mood, and our friends at Sanctuary Cove say this is evident in the rate of sign up for next year's edition.
Such great signs - low interest rates, property prices picking up, construction, new government - surely they signal an awesome summer ahead.
Also in our news and features this week, Greg Hunt, the federal Environment Minister outlines Coalition policy for managing our fishing resources, recreational fishing and the quality of waterways, the ocean and the Reef, all the while juggling the needs of the mining industry and shipping through channels around this precious asset.
Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is welcoming a diverse range of new exhibitors to the 2014 event, each with an innovative, problem-solving gadget or device that will wow visitors, or hook them a distributor.

That's the beauty of SCIBS - it's a two-pronged event (three if you add international delegations at ASMEX), attracting consumers and trade. If you haven't signed on, get going before Christmas for best opportunities for positions and pre-show marketing.
Congratulations to two proud Gold Coasters, whose innovative lighting systems have taken their brand to all parts of the world, for winning the Mayor's Innovation GC Award in the recent Gold Coast Business Awards.
