Fort Lauderdale 31% increase, METS ahead, BIAA Survey

What a week - too much going on in the spheres of boating, sailing, product launches (METS Amsterdam is fertile ground for innovation), results from the GC Expo, upcoming boat shows here and abroad and your chance to get your opinion in for the BIAA State of the Industry Survey.

The BIAA survey looks at the state of the Australian industry to raise the profile of boating.  .. ©

The BIAA is gathering and collaing industry and consumer data on the health of the Australian boating industry to raise the profile of the industry with governments, attract investment and promote the benefits of the boating lifestyle to all Australians. You can get involved at

Fort Lauderdale Boat Show 2013  .. ©

Over in the US, the mood is bright, with international exhibitors, a couple from Australia among them, expressing their satisfaction with the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show - the best for 10 years, some say!

In 2012, the attendance reached nearly 100,000, and it is estimated the attendance for the 2013 show will increase by 31% on last year. Organisers have stated the 2013 edition has been 'the biggest show in terms of revenue', for many, many years. What a great beacon for the Aussie industry, particularly post-election as dealers see some signs of a return in consumer confidence and an appetite for getting back in to leisure pursuits.

METS trade show  David Schmidt

The world's largest and most significant trade show, METS Amsterdam is on soon - 19 to 21 November. We have correspondents on the ground, taking in the sights as well as the innovations, including the winners of this year's DAME Awards, so stay tuned for all the details in the coming week.

Meantime, take a look at the array of features and stories on sailing - the Etchells are on at Southport Yacht Club with a good dash of local and international calibre competition - sponsorship, events, products and the people making it all happen.

Please visit regularly as news occurs around the clock and we pledge to bring it to you.

Til next week, pleasant boating!
