GC Expo this weekend, AIMEX targets US, SCIBS accepting bookings

It's a big weekend on the Gold Coast, barely recovered as we are from the V8 chaos (at a cost of $6m to Queenslanders) not to mention the loss of business and productivity for locals as we sit in gridlock around Main Beach and Surfers Paradise.

I know, why not replace this Bundy-bogan festival with the pageantry and profit of being a stopover city of the Volvo Ocean Race, or similar? But those in officialdom, the same people who live in waterfront properties, believe sailing/boating is just for the silver-tails. I wonder if they consider how much a V8 team (or horse stable) costs to run?

This year organisers are expecting over 500 boats will be on display at the Gold Coast International Marine Expo  Stephen Milne

The next major event, and one that actually does bring high-yield visitors to the GC from all over the region and beyond, is the third annual Gold Coast International Marine Expo - starting Friday and going over the weekend. Praying for great weather and record crowds, as organisers are predicting.

Queensland Premier, Campbell Newman will open the show on Friday, bringing mainstream media attention to this burgeoning event.

We will bring you all the launches, news and innovative products on show at the GC Expo, as well as interviews with some of the founding companies and exhibitors, anticipating a good boost in the lead in to southern hemisphere summer.

Bookings are open for the 2014 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, and organisers are pleased to report an influx of bookings reserving space in the newly-oriented Pavilions A and B, in the Village and on-water.

There's a good mix already of newcomers and old-hands, boat brands, accessories, books and great gear. The SCIBS boat show team is encouraging prospective exhibitors to get in before 21 November to take advantage of the 10% Early Bird discount and take advantage of a number of changes to options for 2014.

In other news, AIMEX has responded to member demand and is focusing on its US campaign, starting with the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, securing space to showcase Australian brands and companies.

There's also a nice snapshot of one family's boating lifestyle, getting the most out of their new trailerable boat.

On their brand new Quicksilver Aktiv 605 Sundeck, the family is enjoying sultry spring weather in the lead up to the holidays, exploring the canals of the Gold Coast, picking up groceries and getting in early on the Christmas shopping!

Have a great week! Keep your stories and comments flowing.
See you at the GC Expo!
