This week the final round of the Eurosaf Champions Sailing Cup, the Semaine Olympique Française, is being sailed out of La Rochelle, France. The opening day saw superstars of the sailing world rubbing shoulders with young hopefuls and them all reaching for Rio and the second day saw the fleets racing through thrills, spills and huge wind shifts. Also check out the latest images of the first Volvo 65, SCA Team, out on sea trials in the English Channel; the all-female crew is getting a leg up on the competition with less than a year to the Alicante, Spain Volvo Ocean Race start in October 2014. Always popular, solo racer Samantha Davies is one of the seven confirmed SCA Team sailors; she still can hardly believe she will be participating in a childhood dream as a Volvo Ocean Race crew member.

Adrian Tattersall & Tim Smart - Flying Fifteen Balearic Championship 2013  Johnny Fullerton

The Flying Fifteen Balearic Championship took place on the weekend of 4 - 6 October at the venue of the 2014 Flying Fifteen European Championships in Pollenca, on the island of Majorca. Racing was organised by the Real Club Nautica Port de Pollenca in a stunning bay surrounded by the mountains at the north-eastern tip of the island of Majorca. Some late summer balmy weather and a mixture of shifty breezes provided for some tactical racing amongst a small but competitive fleet.

Esimit Europa  ©Esimit Europa/Ian Roman

At this weekend's Barcolana Race, Esimit Europa's skipper Jochen Schümann wants to break the course record, which every year attracts around 2,000 boats of all sizes to Trieste in Italy.

'This is the home regatta for Esimit Europa,' said Schümann, who has taken the 30m Maxi yacht on an extensive race tour of Europe during 2013. 'The Barcolana is a very short race, but having up to 2,000 boats on the line makes it very special.'
