America's Cup action, Auckland show, Flamingo Bay top-to-toe survey

If you're not following it, you can catch up with all the on-water action in San Francisco as the America's Cup 'September Showdown' gets underway with our live streaming and all the race coverage.

The Sail-World team is delivering insight, up close coverage and spectacular shots of the fast and furious AC72 wing-sail catamarans, which crews are finding a mighty challenge to control in gusty conditions.

Crowds of tens of thousands have thronged to San Francisco waterfront and other vantage points to thrill at the action. Closer to home, we are all hoping the Kiwis can bring the Mug - the oldest active trophy in international sport - back to NZ and host the AC in 2016. THAT would be special!

Auckland on Water Boat Show  .. ©

This week, in addition to everything AC, we have news and new releases at the upcoming Auckland On Water Boat Show, the details on the new management and plans for Mulpha's Hayman Island Resort, a preview of Cannes and Monaco Yacht Shows, and a host of new products for better boating.

From all over the world, people have expressed interest and some have already registered for the Monday 7 October auction at Southport Yacht Club on Queensland's Gold Coast. Don't miss out!

From NZ, we have a preview of the Auckland On Water Boat Show, running 26 to 29 September and featuring some incredible world premieres. It's the 15th edition of this excellent show, and one to attend for innovative products.

As the dust settles on the Federal Election - the people have spoken for change and a reboot for business and manufacturing - we will soon have comment from industry leaders about their expectations and where to from here as far as turning promises into reality.

Meantime, brush up on your cliches, and find out the interesting origins of some of the commonly used and over-used expressions that derive from the maritime realm, boats and boating. My favourite 'minding my Ps and Qs' which I have so often heard since childhood, is a reference to the innumerable pints and quarts of ale that sailors were well known to consumer. Tavern keepers had to keep careful track (mind) of their tabs, especially if sailors were preparing to ship out! Who'd have thought.

Very soon, we will have the scoop on the host venue for Marine15, set to be the preeminent industry conference and exhibition just two years away! And you know, time does fly. It's just 104 days til Christmas.
Watch this space!

Until next week, enjoy the sunshine and your time on the water!
