SIBS on the horizon, Arvor Weekender fab family boat, what a Humdinga!

Plenty to warm you up this week - industry news, environmental news, new models and products, and brands gearing up for the Sydney International Boat Show, starting 1 August at Darling Harbour.

Sydney Boat Show  BIA NSW

There's news from around the region, and the world, including the first preview of the 2013 Monaco Yacht Show, the world's largest invitation-only event dedicated solely to superyachts, and closer to home, the shows in our neck of the woods, including PIMEX, Mandurah and more.

Also, some interesting reading and particularly pertinent with the upcoming election (will 14 September never come?!), with the government planning to reduce funding and increase criteria for the Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) Scheme. The EMDG Scheme amendment bill 2013 is now in the Senate. This bill sees the allowable years of funding for the US, Canada and EU cut from 7 to 5 years, something which AIMEX and other industry bodies see as hugely negative on export revenue and jobs in our manufacturing sector. They are lobbying the Opposition now and recommending instead a detailed review of trade and investment, the EMDG scheme and Austrade funding.

One for the families and the fishos, we have a story on the most excellent Arvor Weekender - 7m of versatile boating, which proved a hit with visitors at Sanctuary Cove and will be just as popular in Sydney.

Arvor Weekender   Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show

This trailerable wonder is striking a chord with women/mums for its inclusion of all sorts of mod-cons and creature comforts that mean you can day trip or spend a weekend or a week onboard. Check out the on-target campaign and book your own test at

If your taste runs to extreme, or rescue, check out the Humdinga II, the amphibious craft from Gibbs Technologies. What a ripper!

Heaps of other news, from each and every quarter of the marine industry. And some holiday reading if your youngsters and four-legged friends are getting out on the water this winter. Consider canine PFDs for your pup, with this interesting product trialling piece from NMMA.

Fishing with the Bones.  Jeni Bone
Weather permitting, we are going out on our 'blow-up boat' as the kids call it, this weekend for some fishing. Kids are kitted up and keen. We will probably need wetsuits and thermals to stave off the cold. Yes, even the glorious Gold Coast gets brass monkeys this time of the year, with lows of 6C and highs of 22C. Let you know how we go.

More coming each and every day, with updates for SIBS and much more . . .

Pleasant, and safe, boating!

Jeni Bone, editor
