Dinghy Shows, Figaro and Artemis Racing - News from UK and beyond
With the RYA Dinghy Show fast approaching Sail-World's team has put together an interesting article on how Boat Show visitor numbers are down due to the growth of the internet but the shows are still key to being able to provide that touch and feel experience.
Sail-World will be walking the halls and decks at Alexandra Palace in London this weekend to check out all the very latest boats and gear and offerings.

The entry limit for the Rolex Fastnet Race filled within 24 hours and with more than 100 boats on the waiting list and entries still coming in, demand for places in this year's race have been greater than ever.
'With so much demand we had to find a solution and moving the event to Plymouth Yacht Haven and working with Queen Anne's Battery, Sutton Harbour and Mayflower marinas should give us the capacity we need to berth a fleet of this size and provide the facilities expected by over 3000 sailors' says RORC CEO, Eddie Warden Owen.
Starting from Cowes, Isle of Wight on 11th August, yachts will arrive in Plymouth between 13th and 17th August at the end of what can be a very challenging offshore race.

The recently announced 2013 full-time Academy Figaro programme gets underway in less than a week's time on the 6th March with the ICOM Cup Meditéranée in France.
For Ed Hill and Jack Bouttell it will be the first solo offshore race of their careers: 'Solo racing is something that I have been working towards for a long time. Now that I have the opportunity with the Academy to do it, I'm really looking forward to the challenge,' explained Jack. 'It means a lot to be competing in the ICOM Cup - it means that I am moving towards my goal of being competitive in the Solitaire du Figaro,' said Development Squad sailor Ed.
America's Cup news - Sail-World talked to Jimmy Spithill, at length last night. (We will run the full interview over the weekend.) Lots of interesting revelations and the Aussie Oracle USA skipper made both some amusing and quite cutting comments about the Kiwi AC72.
Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa have stepped up their level of pre-Louis Vuitton Cup (LVC) racing with a friendly, semi-serious match-up on New Zealand's Hauraki Gulf. Inside, don't miss the fantastic video coverage of the two mammoth catamarans. This is the closest thing that the world has seen, to date, of AC72 racing, and there's little doubt that this year's LVC and AC34 will be a truly spectacular show. Artemis Racing, the Challenger of Record for AC34, recently announced that they have already started construction on a second-generation AC72 in the team's home country of Sweden. According to plans, the new boat should be sailing on the Bay by early May. Currently, the team's first-generation AC72 is back in the shed, undergoing substantial modifications to give her better wick compared to the other AC72s afloat.
Artemis also announced three new key crew appointments this week, namely that 2012 Olympic medalists Iain Jensen and Andrew Simpson have joined the Challenger of Record's squad, and that 2016 Olympic hopeful John Gimson has also donned team colors. 'These young sailors bring talent and enthusiasm to our team,' said Paul Cayard. 'They are the future of the America's Cup.'
