Others, like Jean Le Cam, had to contend with penalties from the race committee following various infractions as the fleet crossed the shipping channels outside of Gibraltar; the time penalties ranging from 20 minutes to two hours had to be executed within 24 hours and many skippers took advantage of the slow conditions at the time to stop racing immediately and get the sanction behind them as quickly as possible.
Last week, we were very excited to share the Vestas Sailrocket new sailing world record of 59 knots but we kept our fingers crossed for Paul Larsen and his team; surely, 60 knots couldn't be far off... Yesterday, Paul was over the moon with a new sustained speed of 65 knots! Simply incredible... Congratulations to the entire team!
Paul Larsen .. .
I had the pleasure to attend a short safety at sea presentation by Captain Eric Hill earlier this week; Captain Hill did a fabulous job introducing his comprehensive 2-day Sea Survival course to a very attentive audience. I expect many of them will be back for more extensive training on this important topic.
