If you love seeing beautiful yachts, Saint Petersburg in Russia was the place to see them this week, as dozens gathered for the annual classic yacht week. America is looking for innovation, so if you are a aft-deck inventor, now's your chance.
Mirabella V ran into trouble with its new renovation, but the boat builder had an easy fix – blowing a hole in the shed wall. Panama is working hard to attract long-term cruisers with permanent residency instantly as long as you have a little cash, and British Pete Goss, the guy who made himself a life-long hero for his rescue of a fellow sailor (French) in the Southern Ocean, is selling his boat – but it's not just an ordinary boat, read the story.
In much sadder news, a nine-year-old has been killed by a lightning strike on a yacht, and the story ends with a list of the safety measures you can take to save your life, if not your equipment, if you are caught in a lightning storm. In Western Australia yet another solo sailor's life has been lost when he presumably fell overboard in steady seas. Yet again, I am sad to tell that he was not tethered and not wearing a life jacket. When will we learn?
